Gingko - a symbol of healing
Our wonderful gardens are home to many species including the wonderful Ginkgo tree, which has a long history of medicinal use. Its leaves have several therapeutic properties, from improving memory to reducing inflammation, and have come to symbolise the inspiring work we do at Ham Green House.
The history of Ham Green House
Dating from the early eighteenth century, Ham Green House has an interesting history and was previously owned by a rich family of philanthropists, the Brights. It was the childhood home of Richard Bright who was an English physician and early pioneer in the research of kidney disease.
The estate was later purchased by the Bristol Corporation and developed as an isolation hospital for patients with infectious diseases. This link with supporting people through illness continues to the present day with the pioneering work of Penny Brohn UK.
